Hannah Nowlan

Hannah Nowlan is an emerging artist living and working in Black Rock, Victoria, Australia. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts; Drawing and Printmaking from the Victoria College of Arts, University of Melbourne (2015).

Hannah Nowlan’s practice up until this point, has primarily focussed on original artworks. Believing too much of her work is ‘lost-in-translation’ during a replication/printing process, 2020 has allowed Hannah to put in place a unique set of parameters.

Unbridled, by comparison, time constraints or preconceived rules and unlike an edition series we have seen before. Hannah embarks on individually hand-painting each artwork, retaining the hand of the artist and all the organic nuances that come with it. With Hannah’s considered and unwavering practice of slow and mindful creation, this edition series is no exception.

Oil on French Cotton Rag Paper with deckled edges.

Each artwork is hand-painted, signed, embossed and numbered by the artist, with accompanying Certificate of Authenticity. 

[method]

This series, is different to editions as we know it. Every brush stroke is hand-painted, each colour is individually hand-mixed in small batches and each edition is purposely limited to maintain value. These parameters have been put in place by the artist, in an intentional and conscious effort to create an edition series, that remains original.

Framed in Tasmanian Blackwood with our signature corner joinery, our hand-painted editions are float mounted with archival materials without glass/perspex.

At the Hannah Nowlan Studio, we believe original artworks look better framed without glass/perspex. Without reflections and glare interrupting the artwork's subtle viewing qualities, colours and layering.

Whilst we acknowledge paper is a fragile medium, we believe, our framing method offers the best viewing experience. To ensure the longevity of your artwork for years to come, review our simple care instructions.
